As of June 28, 2025, the new European digital accessibility requirement officially comes into force, in implementation of the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and no extensions are foreseen.
The provision applies to all companies that do not fall under the definition of a microenterprise, meaning those with more than 10 employees or an annual turnover exceeding 2 million euros.
These entities must ensure that their websites, mobile applications, and digital services are fully accessible to users with disabilities, in compliance with international WCAG standards.
Website compliance becomes a regulatory obligation, with fines of up to €40,000 for non-compliance.
However, compliance is not just a legal duty—it is also a concrete opportunity to gain significant advantages:
“Digital accessibility is not a constraint, but an opportunity to innovate and include: a step towards a fairer and more modern business.”
